Hosting, VPS, the cloud - how to choose the most optimal and profitable solution?
If you already have your website, online store or application you have to decide on which server it will be stored. Currently the most popular solutions are shared hosting, VPS and the cloud. Check the differences between them and consider which form of page maintenance will be the most profitable for you.
1. Shared hosting
Generally speaking, this type of hosting includes purchase of a place on a shared server, from which other websites, online stores and apps are shared. Some of the main advantages of shared hosting are low costs, high safety level and ready-made universal configuration, since the system is supervised by a range of specialists. Another great plus is that an administrative panel of hosting is usually very intuitive and easy to use. Because of the fact that we share a place on a server with other web pages and apps, this type of hosting is dedicated to minor projects, which don’t generate high server load. However, during sudden high traffic your website can freeze or be temporarily blocked and you will have to buy a larger package.
2. VPS - Virtual Private Server
Another solution is VPS (Virtual Private Server). As its name points out, we buy our own place on a virtual server. Thanks to this we don’t have to worry that other pages placed on the server will create a burden for our website. VPS server is a cheaper alternative of a dedicated server, which has its own big supplies, individual operative system and personal configuration. It’s possible that if you decide on this solution, you will have to use technical assistance for implementing particular settings, securities. VPS is more expensive than hosting, but it usually provides much bigger resources, possibilities of configuration and stability.
3. The cloud
Hosting in the cloud, similarly to VPS, includes using virtualized server resources, which thanks to API interface can be freely adjusted to current needs of our website. However, in contrast with VPS the cloud guarantees much bigger scalability, so it’s dedicated to web pages and applications that process large amounts of data and generate large (often irregular) traffic. In case of such advanced projects, efficient operation of a website is supported with cloud’s dynamic configuration, immediate transfer of data to another server in case of emergency and autoscale of resources, adjusting server’s computing power to current demand of our website.
